The author of the reading feels that his memoir is an inaccurate document. The professor, on the other hand, thinks that the memoir is a reliable record. He casts doubt on each of the ideas presented in the reading.First of all, the author points out that in the memoir, the Chevalier claims to be very wealthy. He says that recent evidence, however, suggests that the Chevalier needed to borrow a lot of money , and therefore could not have been rich. The lecturer casts doubt on this claim. She observes that the Chevalier was rich, but did not have cash which is why he borrowed money. Moreover, she observes that he needed to borrow money while waiting for his assets to be converted into money he could actually spend.Secondly, the author contends that the conversations recorded in the memoir may not be very precise. He notes that they occurred many years before the memoir was written, and that it would have been impossible for the Chevalier to remember them accurately. On the other hand, the lecturer notes that Chevalier often recorded conversations in his journals immediately after they occurred. She contends that when he was writing his memoirs he referred to such diaries. Finally, the author states that the Chevalier’s depiction of his own escape from a famous prison in Venice cannot possibly be realistic. He points out that instead of escaping through a hole in the ceiling like the me moir says, he probably had a friend bribe one of the jail keepers. The professor, on the other hand, notes that prisoners with even more powerful friends could not bribe their way out of the jail. She also says that shortly after the Chevalier’s purported escape, a hole in the ceiling had to be repaired, which indicates that he may have escaped in the way described in his memoir.NoteThis is a sample TOEFL integrated essay written by a native speaker. Mint in Denver was anything but a safe place for 71 women who brought a complaint to the facility’s equal employment opportunity (EEO) officer in 2003. When the organizers of the complaint began to fear that they were the investigation targets instead of the complaints, 32 of the women decided to take the matter to the U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Their contention: The Denver Mint was a hostile work environment. These allegations were the culmination of a number of incidents that had occurred over a long period of time. The Denver Mint, which opened in 1863, has 414 employees, of which 93 are women. One woman who started working at the Denver Mint in 1997 said, â€Å"She found the atmosphere completely hostile toward females. † When she filed an EEO charge claiming discrimination, she was retaliated against by having most of her job duties reassigned and being required to work at home. Events leading to the current complaint started in 2001, when another female employee who was inspecting a men’s room for cleanliness saw a loose ceiling tile, removed it, and found 40 to 50 sex magazines. Some months later, this same employee was checking for rats in an attic and found a stash of pornographic magazines. Both times she made these discoveries, she was with a male colleague. Later, she would say in a statement given to the main office of the U. S. Mint that to her knowledge no action was every taken to address the situations. Another female employee filed a claim of retaliation and sexual harassment with the facility’s EEO officer in 2000. It was 2003 before she got a hearing with the EEOC and an administrative judge ruled in favor of the Mint. However, when she filed her claims in federal court in 2005, a jury found that she â€Å"worked in an environment hostile to women and awarded her $80,000. † In 2001, the facility’s new superintendent held a women’s forum attended by the then-director of the U. S. Mint. However, the highest-ranking woman at the Denver Mint—the administrative services chief, Beverly Mandigo Milne—said, â€Å"Nothing changed. † The final straw that triggered the complaint was the demotion of the mint’s acting EEO manager in February 2003. The month after the demotion, the 71 women filed the petition alleging a hostile work environment. An individual from the San Francisco Mint was assigned to investigate; however, the women claimed that the investigation never focused on the facts, but on Milne. One of the women said, â€Å"They believed that Beverly coerced everyone into filing the petition. † That was when 32 of the women took the matter to the EEOC. Despite the filed petition, hostile situations still continued. One woman said that in 2004, a male co-worker offered to pay her for sex. Another woman said that after she returned after a short bereavement leave following her husband’s death in 2005, a male supervisor propositioned her. On March 31, 2006, the U. S. Mint and the female employees who had filed the class complaint reached a proposed settlement. The terms of the settlement included a payment of $8. 9 million for damages, fees, and costs. Waves by Rachel Platten free essay sample

Rachel Platten has been recording music for well over a decade, but it wasn’t until 2015 that Platten managed to hit the pop charts with â€Å"Fight Song,† an empowerment anthem jam-packed with aphorisms about determination and self-confidence. Her second hit single, â€Å"Stand By You,† sounded almost identical, although it was something of a love song, making it just different enough to earn a spot on the airwaves. Her new album, â€Å"Waves,† is not a bad record; on the contrary, it’s meticulously produced, and Platten’s vocals are usually pristine. However, it all too often suffers from some of the same disturbing traits as its predecessor: the songs are almost wholly devoid of character or memorable lyrics. Indeed, many of the songs sound like they could be sung by almost anyone – Ingrid Michaelson, Sia, Julia Michaels, Kelly Clarkson, or even Selena Gomez. Further, much of the songwriting is flimsy, with even more cliches about self-confidence. We will write a custom essay sample on Waves by Rachel Platten or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The album does have some bright spots. In the lead single â€Å"Broken Glass,† for example, Platten announces her plans to shatter the glass ceiling and dance on the shards; the track is her best dance song yet, and her vocal range and infectious energy evoke Sia. Other highlights include â€Å"Perfect for You† and â€Å"Keep Up,† both â€Å"love me or leave me† jams that have great beats and attitude to spare. Relatability is another of the record’s bonuses, although the topics are typically those that have already been explored plenty by other artists. On piano ballad closer â€Å"Grace,† Platten battles the green-eyed monster of jealousy with relatable but unmemorable results. â€Å"Is this what I’ve become? Someone who gets jealous of someone?† Platten ponders atop a melancholy piano. Most of the ballads can be described the same way: melancholy, relatable, and totally forgettable. â€Å"Hands,† an ode to her nana, is the only ballad that stands out as particularly powerful; it’s a relevant tale of a strong woman who raised her family no matter what life hurled at her. Platten sounds emotionally invested in every word. However, the problem with most of the songs on the album is that they really lack character and occasionally repeat themselves. Of the album’s first seven tracks, half are breakup songs (â€Å"Perfect for You† count s as half a breakup song because it’s more of an ultimatum: â€Å"love me or leave me alone!† she commands). One can’t help but feel that Platten just doesn’t have enough ideas. When Platten isn’t repeating herself, she’s oftentimes repeating others. â€Å"Labels,† for example, sounds like a rewrite of Julia Michaels’ â€Å"Issues,† through a â€Å"don’t judge† lens. The song is timely, but Platten doesn’t have anything new to say about labels, either: â€Å"We don’t need no labels when you’re sitting ’cross the table/ We’re perfectly unstable† is the most profound the lyrics get. Other artists have expressed the sentiment with more memorable tunes. â€Å"Loose Ends† finds Platten berating an inauthentic ex-friend; unfortunately, she seems to have torn a few pages from Taylor Swift’s playbook. â€Å"Who told you you could put band-aids over broken hearts to fix messes you made?† is painfully similar to Taylor Swift’s â€Å"Band-aids don’t fix bullet holes,† from 2014’s â€Å"Bad Blood.† One’s opinion of â€Å"Waves† will likely depend on what one looks for in an album. If you’re seeking a record that’s relatable, easy to dance to, and full of feel-good one-liners, then this is the album for you. However, if you’re in search of innovation or bulletproof hooks, you’ll be better off downloading â€Å"Broken Glass† and â€Å"Hands† and skipping the rest. Although it’s a fun and relatable listen, â€Å"Waves† is unlikely to make any in the pop ocean.

Marketing Plan for Tourism Destination Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Marketing Plan for Tourism Destination - Essay Example Kenya, one of the countries in East African region, has for decades now proved to be one of the world’s best tourism destinations. It is widely to be having game reserves and national parks that keep some of the world’s biggest wildlife such as wildebeests, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, hippopotamus, camels, lions, cheetahs, zebras among other numerous interesting wild animals which attract tourists. Apart from the wild animals, the country is also rich in clean and plenty of nice beaches along its coastline with nice hotels and sun bathing facilities where both international and domestic tourists prefer to spend their holidays at. The great wildebeest migration which also takes place for three consecutive months each year also happens to be one of the largest tourist attractions products in Kenya. The tourism industry of Kenya has recently largely expanded given the good and warm cordial relations that the country has with both the neighboring countries as well as other countries abroad. However, following the recent Westgate Mall terrorist attack that took place in the Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi, the country’s tourism industry has largely been affected (James, 2013). This season being a high season for the tourism industry, most of the hotels currently record at most 25% their normal capacity. This is not as expected for all high seasons for tourism in this country where more hotels would be recording close to 95% their normal capacity on a daily basis. This marketing plan is therefore aimed at restructuring the Kenya’s tourism Industry and ensuring that tourists are assured of their security so that the tourism industry can recover from this big blow.

Service Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Service - Essay Example The service learning traces its root to the mid-1980s. The mission of the program was to increase national service efforts among youth (Strom 1). As it is, the majority of colleges and universities have incorporated the program into their curriculums. In the United States, over one million students and 22,000 community organizations have taken part in the program (Strom 1). The mandatory service requirement may vary in different schools. It may entail building community support, allowing students to decide what to perform, training teachers, recognizing students initiatives as well as allowing students a chance to reflect on what they do (Loupe 1). These aspects are considered when it comes to enlisting the program into the curriculum. In some schools, the issue of mandatory service requirement has been adopted and received an acknowledgement from the students. However, in others, there is some form of resistance with no noticeable impact. As a result, this has led to a serious debat e on whether to adopt this program wholly or to shelf it for further consideration on its effects on students and schools. Therefore, the idea of having a mandatory service requirement of 30 hours needs further consideration in EFSC. The idea should not be implemented as it has failed in some schools; it is a way of forced work, substitute academic purpose, financial challenges, as well as criticism from leaders. First, it is clear that the policy of mandatory service requirements has been a failure in those schools that it has already been started. In Jefferson Parish School, the program has been implemented with dismal outcomes. In the school, the administrators viewed the program as a way of detracting students from academic achievements (Loupe 1). The detraction can occur as the students may be required to earn hours of service during class time. The effect is that a considerable amount of time will be lost that could be used for other academic activities such as

My Papas Waltz :: essays research papers

A Drunken Dance   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Theodore Roethke’s â€Å"My Papa’s Waltz† tells the reader of a small boy’s memory of his father. It explains how his father is intoxicated and the scene that goes along with it, using the word waltz to describe it.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In the first two lines, it recounts the smell of his father’s breath and the extent to which it reeked: â€Å"The whiskey on your breath / Could make a small boy dizzy† (1-2). As the third and fourth lines are read, a picture of a small boy hanging onto his father is instilled in the reader’s mind: â€Å"But I hung on like death / Such waltzing was not easy† (3-4). We would not normally associate this particular image with a waltz, a word Webster’s Dictionary defines as a ballroom dance in 3/4 time with strong accent on the first beat and a basic pattern of step-step-close. How can such an elegant dance be used to describe such a scene?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The fifth and sixth lines describe, sarcastically, a playful incident where pans fall off the kitchen shelf: â€Å"We romped until the pans / Slid from the kitchen shelf† (5-6). Finally the boy’s mother comes into play during the seventh and eight lines. Her facial expression â€Å"Could not unfrown itself† (8). This tells us that the mother was displeased but its rather discerning that she made no attempt at intervening. We would normally think of a mother’s love as unconditional and willing to do anything for her son. It really shows the degree of fear the father must have embedded into the mother with his actions.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The eleventh through fourteenth lines describe actual, bodily harm done to the young boy by way of his father’s acts: â€Å"At every step you missed / My right ear scraped a buckle / You beat time on my head / With a palm caked hard by dirt† (11-14). We can actually picture the boy clinging to his father as his ear scrapes the father’s belt buckle and his watch bumps hard onto the boy’s head.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  I believe this poem tells a rather disturbing story of a boy’s time with his father in a very sarcastic way. I believe the theme to it is the sarcasm itself. It shows how some things that are bad can be described as good.

The Magic Kingdom

Descriptive Essay: Disney World (The Magic Kingdom) When I walk through those magical gates I stumble upon Main Street, USA. This just happens to be the first of seven themed lands. The decor is early-20th century small-town America, which happens to be inspired by Walt Disney’s childhood and the movie Lady and the Tramp. As I stroll down Main Street I can see an old fashioned movie theatre, quaint little shops, and an antique barber shop. But the best part of all is at the end of Main Street USA stands Cinderella’s enchanting castle that marks the center of the park. At the center I find 6 other pathways that lead to six additional lands. When I travel through these lands I’ll see how fantasy becomes reality when I learn how to be a pirate, match wits with funny monsters and conquer mountains. Up next on my to do list is to visit Liberty Square where I visit The Hall of Presidents to view a show featuring every American president, past and present, in a fascinating tribute. The next stop is not for the faint of heart and be aware of harrowing hitchhikers. Here climb aboard the Doom Buggy and ride through the ominous Haunted Mansion where a supernatural Ghost Host introduces my to his closest 999 dearly departed friends. Patriotic music combined with spooky sounds will be heard throughout Liberty Square along with the scent of New England dishes from the Liberty Tree Tavern. Fantasyland is dedicated to the young at heart and to those who believe that when you wish upon a star, your dreams come true. This part of the Magic Kingdom is perfect for kids both young and old. Here I sing along with a catchy melody on â€Å"it’s a small world† with nearly 300 brightly costumed dolls singing and dancing to bring the world’s cultures closer together in no small way. Next, I gently glide ‘round Cinderella’s Golden Carrousel on one of ninety prancing steeds as magical Disney music fills the air. Then, I soar high in the sky with Dumbo over Magic Kingdom around a circus ball topped by Timothy Mouse. After that, I take a whirl in a giant tea cup at the mad-as-a-hatter Unbirthday Party in Wonderland. Also, I seize my courage and enter the Evil Queen’s shadowy world on Snow White’s Scary Adventures and see who is the fairest of them all. Plus, I embark on a jolly journey during a very blustery day in the Hundred Acre Wood aboard one of Pooh’s Hunny Pots on The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Before I leave I can’t forget to stop and chat with some of my favorite friends such as Pooh and Tigger too. Now comes Tomorrowland filled with living blueprints of our future. Before I explore, I want to stop at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe to maybe grab a Blast-off burger or some Cosmic Chicken. To begin I climb aboard my own space cruiser to shoot targets and rack up points as I battle the robots in Zurg’s service on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Next, I launch past the flashing lights of my space station into the soaring darkness of space on Space Mountain. Lastly I experience the glory of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as I drive my own Indy 500-style race car on a guided track all the way to the Victory Circle on the Tomorrowland Speedway. At the end of the day, as I sit and think about my day’s journey, I wonder what my world would be like if I’d never gotten to experience Disney magic like I did today. Well, my life wouldn’t be the same without it. My memories as a little girl are filled with Disney magic. The feelings I got back then and still do now at eighteen don’t change. Memories of family vacations at Disney World will never be forgotten; it’s the only time now that I can remember us all being happy with each other before my parents’ divorce. The excitement and adventure that comes from Disney World can’t be replaced with anything else because there’s nothing else in the world quite like it.
